Introduction

Quality of Service is a fundamental issue in the telecommunications environment, particularly given the growing number of players in the market, and ever-stronger competition. Poor quality exacerbates customer churn and can substantially impair long-term revenue generation.

DSPG has designed the voice quality demonstrator system to show the effectiveness of echo cancellers and other voice quality enhancement devices in a real world environment. This gives an advantage to sales and marketing teams to show how well a target network will perform with their equipment installed in a live network.

The DSPGenie -VQ Demonstrator has been designed to be set-up easily and provide a user-friendly environment so people of all levels of technical ability can perceive the greatest effect with minimum hassle. The VQ Demonstrator is also small enough to be taken into conference rooms and exhibit to a large number of people at a time.

Excutive Summary

There are several modes of testing that can be accomplished for any desire of marketing demonstration.

Live Network Testing
· Mobile to Mobile
· Mobile to PSTN

Offline Testing
· G.168 Objective Testing
· Subjective Controlled Environment

The live network testing can be done with the echo canceller and VQE features turned off and on to demonstrate the benefit and improvement of sound quality of your equipment.
Many customers often wonder about G.168 compliance, with a quick demonstration you can show them a few tests to prove that your equipment complies with the latest standard.
In a controlled subjective environment with the DSPGenie providing the network parameters you can demonstrate the dynamic range of the echo canceller to full potential.

Subjective Live Demonstration Scenarios

The demonstration can be done in two primary ways for greatest effect of presentation.

1. Mobile to Mobile
2. Mobile to PSTN

The VQ Demonstrator can accept two incoming calls from the ISDN line or accept a call and originate another call. The accepted calls will be terminated and calls that are originated will all be internally connected and routed through the echo canceller or VQE device. The presenter would first have the echo canceller or VQE device in a bypass mode so the people present can hear the current voice quality of the network. The device would be switched on to show the improvement in the network. Recordings can be made as the data passes through and you can show these in CoolEdit or DSPG's Network Analysis software. Our Network Analysis software can measure noise and speech levels as well as echo delay.

Set-up and Installation in Conference Room

A standard 2B+D ISDN connection must be present in the conference room where you desire to perform the demonstration. If video conferencing capability is present, this will usually mean an ISDN connection is available.

Set-up:
· The ISDN cable must be connected to the DSPGenie - VQ Demonstrator.
· A Laptop or projector should be connected to provide a visual display.
· The echo canceller or VQE device you want to present must be connected.
· Speakers can be connected so all people present in the conference room can hear the conversation.
· A PSTN phone must present to make Mobile to PSTN calls.

Mobile to Mobile

Two mobile users will each phone a number of the ISDN line to the VQ Demonstrator.

Mobile to PSTN

One user calls an ISDN number on a mobile and another user uses a landline to call the other ISDN number that is connected to the VQ Demonstrator.

Objecttive Offline Demonstration Scenarios

Objective Testing

The DSPGenie - VQ Demonstrator can also be used as a G.168 Echo Canceller Tester and VQE Tester.
If the customer wants to know if the echo canceller is compliant with the G.168 standard, you can provide a quick demo to prove it passes the tests by starting the relevant software.
Other VQE features can be demonstrated such as Noise Reduction, Noise Compensation, and Automatic Level Control. With graphical and audible output you can easily show the effectiveness of your product to improve voice quality.

Subjective Testing

With controlled network parameters such as input levels, echo loss and echo delay you can demonstrate the dynamic range of the echo canceller to full potential. This is also a great way to show how quickly the echo canceller can converge on a signal. In the middle of a conversation you can change the delay and force the echo canceller to re-converge, thereby showing the speed and efficiency of a your product.

Equipment

The following equipment would be needed to perform a demonstration.

· DSPGenie - VQ Demonstrator
· Laptop or Projector
· Optional Speakers
· 2B+D ISDN connection
· Phones (Mobile or Land Line)
· Echo Canceller to Test
