With the rapid growth in the world telecommunications market and subsequent increase in the number of different systems and telecom operators, the effect of network delay is frequently of concern. The Universal Delay System type UDS-1E (with E1/CEPT interface option) and UDS-1T (with T1 interface option) allows an easy emulation of various network delays for applications in telecom systems testing and integration.

The UDS-1E is a compact instrument whose primary function is the implementation of a variable delay. The interface is selectable, and can match any of the following telecommunication transmission standards:

  • E1/CEPT Primary Rate PCM
  • X.21 variable rate data (X.27 DCE/DTE)
  • Analogue signal (Telephony/Audio)
The delay range is from 1ms to 4999 ms and can be set independently in each direction. All manual controls and indicators are located on the front panel, and all interface connectors and sockets are on the back panel. Optionally, the unit can be remotely controlled via a serial RS 232/V.24 link from a PC laptop or desktop computer. In this Remote mode there are options for additional “Virtual Instrument” type functions. As the UDS-1E is designed to introduce delay in an emulated network connection, it will be connected between two sets of user’s equipment.
